IELTS is fast becoming a necessity in many sites around the province. For those of you who haven’t run across this acronym yet, it stands for “International English Language Testing System.”

The IELTS exam is the most widely accepted English language proficiency assessment for people who work or study within the English language. In 2012, 1.9 million people wrote the exam. It is accepted by over 7000 organizations, governments, schools, and businesses, including Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

IELTS is an ever-evolving test that is designed to give the most accurate separate assessment of each of the four main English skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Two different tests are offered: a General test, and an Academic test.

Rural Routes is pleased to offer an IELTS workshop which can help our practitioners with some of the test writing tips and hints.

For more information on the test, please visit the official website at, or contact Gavin Palmer at
