Rocky View County surrounds the city of Calgary in a horseshoe shape to the west, north, and east of the city. The approximate population of Rocky View Country, including the city of Airdrie and the towns of Cochrane, Chestermere, and Crossfield, is 92,163. Airdrie is one of the youngest and fastest growing cities in Alberta.
English Language Learner Support Services
English language learning (ELL) classes are available in Airdrie, Cochrane, and Chestermere.
Volunteer tutoring for adult learners is available throughout Rocky View County.
Due to the large geographic area of Rocky View, access to support services and programming can be difficult and sometimes impossible for some English language learners.
Many agencies work together to provide strong support networks in the city of Airdrie and the towns of Cochrane and Chestermere. Some of these supports are:

For students: Easy Pace Learning Basic English lessons, grammar, vocabulary, and exercises at an easy pace
For instructors: Sticky Ball: ESL Resources for Teachers Free, printable ESL resources for teachers, including ESL worksheets, ESL grammar exercises, ESL writing exercises, ESL phrasal verbs worksheets, and easy and useful games and activities for the ESL classroom
Book: Teaching ESL in Canada by Xuemei Li, Johanne Myles, and Pamela Robinson A valuable resource for anyone who teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) in academic or private language schools or to adult newcomers to Canada. The text can be used in TESL classrooms or as a resource for individual professional development.
For tutors: VESL: Volunteer with ESL Learners
A great website for volunteers with ESL learners. It includes ESL resources, community contacts, training opportunities, tutor tips, cultural info, volunteer highlights, professional development, and community news (with a focus on Calgary).

We do not often associate psychology with ESL, but understanding socio-affective factors is important in our field.
